Customer needs

The key question in this case: what quality standards need to be met? To answer this, we first gathered as much information as possible.

We photographed a large, classified sample set to visualize defects. Reviewing and documenting this together prevents misunderstandings. We also involve the customer in the test setups. With every test, a clearer understanding of the exact customer requirements emerges.

Algorithms and AI

The biggest challenge? These metal products produce a significant amount of visual noise, making it difficult to distinguish between defects and good products. But challenges like this are exactly what we excel at—and we successfully resolved it.

We developed algorithms based on parameters from both good and defective product samples. What’s unique is that, with AI, we not only identified the critical inspection parameters but also defined the thresholds for these parameters.

Test setup

Within twelve weeks, we delivered a functional setup that quickly approved the first product series. This was achieved thanks to our expertise in industrializing vision solutions and the standards we’ve developed over the years.

The setup combines a vibrating feeder for supply with a visual inspection system. Three shafts are inspected simultaneously, with algorithms determining whether they end up in the acceptance or rejection bin. Exactly what Philips was looking for.

High output

Our goal is always the same: to provide manufacturers with a solution that enables them to consistently deliver high-quality products. In this case, it’s a combination of inspection and handling, an area where we excel.

This success is due in no small part to our understanding of what it takes to keep a machine like this running 24/7 with high output. Critical inspection is one thing, but integrating it into a seamless production process… that’s another.
